Policy 4873 – Staff Cell Phone Usage
The use of cell/smart phones during work time presents a significant safety risk, as well as,
adversely impacts work time. For safety and educational reasons, the instructional staff, except
as provided in this policy for transportation employees, are not permitted to use such personal
electronic devices for personal use during instructional time. For safety and educational reasons,
the support staff, except as provided in this policy for transportation employees, are not
permitted to use such personal electronic devices for personal use during designated work time.
Exceptions will be made for bonafide school related business or emergencies.
Bus drivers and other employees driving district vehicles are prohibited from using cell/smart
phones while driving. If an emergency occurs, the vehicle should be parked and remain parked
in a safe location during the use of the electronic device. Bus drivers and employees driving
District vehicles should log those work time emergency calls with date, time, call duration and
vehicle location with their supervisor as soon as is practicable.
