Policy 2530 – Graduation Requirements – Students with Disabilities

The District must provide a free appropriate public education (FAPE) for students with
disabilities pursuant to the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) until they
graduate or until the student reaches twenty-one (21) years of age.

Students with disabilities pursuant to the IDEA who have completed four years of high school
shall be allowed to participate in the graduation ceremony of the student’s high school
graduating class and all related activities if the student’s individualized education program (IEP)
prescribes special education, transition planning, transition services, or related services beyond
the student’s four years of high school, and the student’s individualized education program team
determines the student is making satisfactory progress toward the completion of the individual
education program and participation in the graduation ceremony is determined appropriate.

The District shall provide timely and meaningful written notice to children with disabilities and
their parents or guardians about the instant policy. [Notice of the District’s policy shall be
provided at the annual IBP meeting that occurs prior to the student’s fourth year of high school.]
The purpose of the notice is to inform parents and students about the policy and should not be
confused with IDEA notices of action relating to the identification, evaluation, placement, or
provision of FAPE.

This policy does not apply to non-IDEA students.
